Plant Paradise Country Gardens™
By Sarah coulber
In the Albion Hills of Caledon is the home and business of Robb and Lorraine Roberts. Their love of nature and desire for obtaining premium quality plants prompted the Ontario couple to grow their own plants from seed. After successfully growing thousands of plants each year, the Roberts started their own nursery, Plant Paradise Country Gardens™, which is now listed as a tourist destination.
Located on 24 acres of managed forest, “visitors can tour the natural and formal perennial display gardens of continuous bloom that are presented in harmony with the picturesque Oak Ridges Moraine,” explains Lorraine. In addition to being completely organic, the nursery is also solar powered and a large portion of their perennials are native to the region.
Lorraine and Robb enjoy sharing their knowledge and passion with visitors. Lorraine also writes gardening articles for Caledon Living Magazine and speaks at horticultural societies and garden clubs. In 2006, Plant Paradise Country Gardens™, was recognized as a Certified Backyard Habitat by the Canadian Wildlife Federation.
They are located at 16258 Humber Station Road in Caledon and are open from April until the end of October. Hours of operation are Wednesday to Sunday and Holiday Mondays from 9a.m. to 6 p.m. You can reach them at:

Nursery Tip: “Eliminate the use of pesticides in the garden by including plants that attract beneficial insects into your garden. Try starting with Giant Blue Hyssop (Agastache foeniculum), Yarrow, and Monarda. It is a matter of creating harmony in the garden by creating a balance of the good bugs that eat the bad bugs. Successful gardening begins with healthy soil, so we always begin planting by mixing some composted manure or worm castings into our soil.”
